hi

12 student for every 5 ,1 is absent so 10 are present and 2 are absent, 10 + 2 = 12 , 2 are absent . 2 / 12 = 6 so the ratio is 1:6

Thanks

1)Try this: ratio of absent to present is 1/5. So ratio of absent to total number of students would be 1 out of every six, or 1/6.

2) ratio of absent/total students is 1/6 and if you have a total of 12 students, you would have 1/6=x/12. Cross multiply and divide. Or just look at it. 1/6=2/12. answer 2 students.

1:5 ratio
2:10 ratio is also 1:5
2 and 10 = 12
the only possible solution is 2 absent 10 present

You could always solve this the hard way (by setting up =an2 equation representing the problem)
X= number of absent students so 5X = number of present students (1:5 ratio)
1x + 5x = 12
6x = 12
x=2 absent students

let x be the number of absent students. Then 12 - x is the number of non-absent students

absent stuents / non-absent students = 1/5

x/(12 - x) = 1/5
12 - x = 5x
12x = 6
x = 2

so there are 2 students that are absent

A = absent students
12-A = present students
A/(12-A) = 1/5
5A= 12 -A
6A = 12
A= 2

10 are there and 2 are not

1/5=12/X
cross multiply
1xX=1X
5x12=60
1X=60
X=60
if there are a total of 60 members and only 12 made it then
60 - 12 = 48 missing members
