A number line is a line on which there are numbers. The line may show positive and negative integers and may be used to assist with addition and subtraction.

A sample number line is shown below.

A question such as 2 - 5 may be answered by starting at zero , moving 2 to right and then 5 left.
Finishing point is at - 3.
Thus 2 - 5 = - 3

Simply a line with numbers on it. It can be used to explain math problems.

An example of a number line (imagine the numbers and words are below the "tick" marks)...
