It's generally a BAD idea to put a non OEM thermostat in a car. The computer is designed to read coolant temperature and adjust fuel and air to compensate and such. so again generally a BAD idea to use a lower or higher temp thermostat. On some cars the heater might not even work anymore.

First thing is less gas milage because the engine may stay to cold to long. Then the Thermostat function code check engine light might happen. And come winter when you need heat and defrosters you will be out in the cold. For power use only at the drag strip it might help you make 5 or 6 more hp with ECM reprograming and other mods. Just keep it stock unless you want to make really big horse power gains. Like here in Texas guys putting power crank pulleys on and not getting the A/C compressor speed at idle and alternator charging voltage to run the blower motor and headlights at the same time. Every day driver keep it stock. What's not broke don't fix it.

The lower temp t-stat will make your car run cooler. If your car overheats and the t-stat is not stuck, fix the real problem (clogged radiator, bad water pump, worn out coolant etc...) if the car runs below it's normal temperature range, the computer will run the air/fuel mixture richer. This will make your car pollute more and get worse gas millage. It will not be more powerful (is it more powerful when its cold now?) Leave the t-stat alone. If you want to make it more powerful, look into cams, heads, headers, torque converters, rear-end gears, etc...

Colder engine makes your car run richer. The ECU (computer) believe that it needs to warm up the car so it will constantly run in enriched mode (as if the choke was on).

The bottom line is that you will get poor MPG. You might bet slightly more HP / Torque. You might also fail emissions.

CORRECTION: You WILL fail emission.

Good Luck.

DOING THIS WILL NOT ALLOW THE (ECM), CARS COMPUTER TO FUNCTION CORRECTLY AND CAUSE OTHER PROBLEMS.
