it is unfashionable, but you don't go to jail for it.

new rule is you can wear white after labor day. In the past there were rules about when men had to hang up their straw hats and women their white shoes and dresses. Now as long as you are dresses appropriate white is okay any time. It's also no longer the rule to wear black to a funeral. Whatever you would wear to church is now okay. Unless you wear jeans to church.

The saying states: "Don't wear white after Labor Day", or "Never wear white after Labor Day". Literally, it's "always" after Labor Day, regardless of whether or not its months away or days away, essentially implying that you're never to wear white. Personally, as I see it, the "never" wearing of white after Labor Day applies to the following: Shorts & Pants.
Just a bad idea. Especially if you're female. Come to think of it, pretty bad if you're male too.
But shirts, dresses, socks, or shoes in white are just fine!

That rule is outdated and no longer applies. It was not considered proper to wear such bright colors after a certain time of year. Wear what you want. Make your own style and don't adhere to the dictates of others, unless of course you are subject to a dress code at a school or in your employment.

I don't know... someone made up that rule and it's just really stupid, labor day is about honoring people that work isn't it? Alot of people have to wear white to work, so it's just something stupid.

I still wear it. It's a rule that people follow because the industry makes them believe they have to.
