Murano doesn't suck. Do you own one? My Murano, which is an SUV, gets 25 mpg highway, and 19/20 city. If that is low to you, then it sucks. BUT.....Ford Escape hybrid, Murano SUV, and most 2004-2008 models are starting to get REALLY impressive gas mileage.

I think some people need to look up the stats before replying... I own a Murano and that is using super unleaded gas, which improves the mileage by 25% easily!

The RAV4 and Honda CRV get the best fuel mileage in their class. The only SUV that beats them is the Ford Escape hybrid, but that's a somewhat different car.

Most SUVs do not get good gas mileage. Try an Escape or the Vue.

The best ones that I've seen are the Mercury Mariner Hybrid and the Ford Escape Hybrid which I've heard people saying they've managed to get into the high 30's for mileage.

I own a 2001 Ford Escape (not hybrid) and I've been running roughly 25 mpg for the past few months.

Cars get good gas millage. SUV's are heavier, have larger engines and are not held to the same standards for efficiency as cars. SUV's are less safe, (heavier=long stopping distance, taller=more inclined to roll over, classified as trucks=not required to meet as high a safety standards as cars) Buy a car.

Of course the hybrid's are going to be the forerunner in the MPG category...but still on the $$$ if that is also a consideration. I absolutely love my 2005 Honda Element...4cyl., 160 h.p. and gets nice MPG.

Good mpg is dependent on the driver. If you drive sensibly you can obtain good mileage with most newer vehicles.
