If you live in the Carolinas or travel there often I need more info. I am looking for small towns, not tourist attractions. My husband and I love to deep sea fish and enjoy some country living as well. We are looking for the best of both worlds. The Carolinas sound like a beautiful place. We don't need to be dirrectly on the ocean, but close by. Within 45 minutes to the sea:~)

wooleybooley, maps are OK, but I've got real people here and they can tell me more about an area that I could possibly get off of a map. Besides, I'm not getting any younger:~)

You should visit either Long Beach or Southport. They are both located on the Outer Banks and are smaller, quiet communities. Long Beach is smaller than Southport. Both are right on the coast and are also close to the Cape Fear River and are within easy driving distance from each other. Southport is a fishing town, and you'd definitely have the opportunity to enjoy some deep sea fishing.

I answered your first question about South Carolina but I see that more info is needed. The outskirts of Myrtle Beach is a nice place to be. It's about 30 to 45 minutes away from the ocean, as is Conway. Call the Chamber of Commerce or the Tourist Center in Myrtle Beach, & they can help you with locations also.

I recommend you take a look at New Bern, North Carolina. It's a town on the edge of the Outer Banks and is modeled after Bern, Switzerland. It's about an hour's drive or less to the Outer Banks and fishing areas. They have an airport served by regional carriers and other amenities.

Edisto Island is a great park, it is on the ocean. They have the sea turtle preservers there as well I have been there. There are some great welk shells on that beach

I do have to add that Charleston is not a big city, the population is only 84,000 and it is spread out

I live in North Carolina, so there are a lot of beautiful places on the coast. You can go to the Outer Banks.

Get maps of each state. Find towns near the coast. Visit. Make up your own mind. That's what I did when I first moved to Arizona.
