Are they going to be the next Boston Celtics?

Is this the start of a slow decline into mediocrity just like the Boston Celtics?

I'm not a yankees fan but I kinda feel bad for this team...they have the right players but they don't know how to utilize them

I don't see much teamwork at all (unless they're turning double plays) and everyone wants to be a hero and the be the guy who wants to hit the big 3 run home run

THey have 4 speedy guys who are good hitters at the top of the lineup...Damon, Melky, Jeter and A-rod...imagine if you put the hit and run on with these guys and steal bases as well. Each of these guys have 25/25 potential (except Melky maybe)

speed never goes into a slump and why won't they utilise the speed they have when things are not going their way and they have to mount a come back or when they need a crucial run?

just like the cubs why is the managment so lousy at fixing pitching

Roger Clemens was never the answer, so why did they sign him to a huge contract?

Gene

they're kinda like the boston celtics...after winning like 3 or 4 championships in the 80s they just qualified for the playoffs in next 4-5 years and never were conteneders to win a championship

don't you think the yanks are like that too?

well this is kinda of a two part question actually hahaha

The Yankees, my dear, know what they are doing. Most of the time. They may not seem to click together, but there is some chemistry. They didn't get by this season by hating each other, you know. They know how to shake things up for a surprise ending. Those mistakes made in the beginning of the year have made them stronger. They will come together. They're a shoe in for AL Wild Card, unless they played like the did today. (Lost against Mariners, 6-1) It's probably too late, but the pitching seems to be getting slightly better. Slightly. Roger may not be an answer, but he helped. And the Yankees needed as much help as they could get this season.

Don't count them out just yet. They are known for comebacks. It is just one year. Hell, even if it's more than one year, us true fans will keep cheering, no matter what. Because that's just how dedicated we are.

Yankees Love. <3

I don't think the Yankees are done. They have a good shot at being the Wild Card team. They ALWAYS have the highest payroll, which means they can get what they need when they need it. The problem is, if you get "the best" guys, they don't always "play the best" around each other. Jeter HATES A-Rod, A-Rod wants everyone to like him, everyone's mad about the Clemens deal, and we all know Joe Torre is done after this season. The Yankees will still be there, but they need to follow the Red Sox and get the farm system back in shape. Money helps, but doesn't guarantee success. Since they've spent over 1.5 Billion on salary since 2000, and have zip to show for it.

Yankees will win the Wild Card, but be shipped out of the playoffs by Anaheim. The Red Sox will win the East, and beat the Indians, play Anaheim in the ALCS and take it. Then move to the WS to play the Mets. Not sure who wins that, but it will be fun to watch.

I hate the Yankees, but they are not done. They are still going to make the playoffs this year, and they have some great young guys like Robinson Cano, Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes and Melky Cabrera. Roger Clemens may not be pitching his best, but he is definitely helping out with the young pitchers like Joba and Hughes. They will always be good because of their salary cap, don't expect them to decline any time soon.

I don't understand the question too well. They are in the hunt for a wild card position, have come off an 11-year streak of winning the division, have a gun-crazy owner who spends bigs $$ (albeit stupidly, usually), and have a core of great players. Done? They seem pretty sound to me.

The Yankees should have fired Joe Torre last year. That would have put new blood and energy into the team. Nevertheless, Joe is King George's pet boy and won't let him go. As long as Torre is on the bench the Yankees won't go anywhere.

Agreed, they're finished, and need to make some wholsale changes after this year is over. But, I don't feel bad for them, they had 4 WS rings during this run.

No. the yankees are a powerful team despite their troubles. even though they struggle, the still are in first for the wild card. they are also in the top teams in the MLB. The Yankees are always a factor in baseball. even if they are struggling

LOL!!! Yes, they may be having a little bit of a down season, but I last I checked they are the wild card leader, and are still in the division race.
