#1) Before you even get to the patent stage send the idea in multiple letters addressed to yourself so that you have envelopes with letters inside which has the Govements postmark on it as a reference Day, Month & Year...

remember to put a notation of some sort as to the envelopes contents.. i.e the one for my annti-hydroplaing device will say "Anti-Hydroplaning" invent. in the lower right hand corner of the envelopes..

remember to leave them sealed (only to be opened in court as proof)

this give you some legal protection just in case someone were to steal your brain child, profit from it etc. this way you can show it was your idea far in advance of when they put it out...

#2) Before you tell anyone or show anyone about anything to do with your idea... prepare and have a copy of a "Confidrntiality and Non Competitve Agreement"

which means that they cannot and will not disclose anything you discuss or show as business plans, blue prints, product designs, markteing stratagies etc. and that if they should they give up any right to defend against enfringement law suit.

This also should contain a clause stating that any known and or unknown associate ot this party is restricted and bound by the same thru this persons consent incase they even should accidentally leak your ideas etc.

This prevents any associare of that person from profiting from your brain child as well...

#3) it is best to have both a working model, copy of your brain child in a safe place... and have the patent in hand or at least pending prior to sharing it with anyone even with a signed "Confidentialy Agtreement in place...

#4) Because Laws vary slightly from State to State.. get yourself a Patent and Copywright Attorney to protect you and your idea... (also remember to have aConfidentiality Agreement drawn up even before you meet with this Attorney for the Attorny to sign and date in front of a witness too...

(to protect from occassional unethical attorneys...)
