Who's to say what constitutes a "stupid thing"? While a tea cozy or whatever may seem frivolous to you. The latest high-tech tool (when you already have 5 other tools that do the same job) seems frivolous to me.
So, anyway, I guess it would be ok for him to do that if she can slap his wrist a few times if he overspends her money. What she does with her own money is her own choice, and vice versa.

Bernie Madoff somewhat stole money from human beings and the place did he bypass? reformatory. " Lauryn Hill that don't pay some taxes get reformatory time?" -Um, she remodeled 2 million and did no longer pay a dime. that's no longer "some taxes". She pleaded in charge. She knew what she did became incorrect.

no, because you're the stupid one that made a joint account with her. open up another account with only your name. tell her it's for "our future house" or something like that. keep the joint account at a minimum. whatever you've spent in a month, keep only that amount of money in it. it may be more of a hassle, but it will save you in the long run.
