Sounds kinda stupid, I know. But whenever I watch documentaries about the universe, astrophysics, etc., I feel emotionally moved in a way that I can only compare to a religious experience. I mean, when one just TRIES to contemplate the vastness of the universe and our relatively infinitismal place in it, I am awed.
I don't mean to be condescending, but it makes me feel kinda sorry for the religiously devout whose perception of reality is, I would respectfully submit, terribly limited.

Science documentaries move me emotionally too. I don't make any comparisons to religions (mostly because there are so many religions which don't seem to agree with each other). If there is a god who made the universe, I'm impressed with the job!

Yup buddy, felt the same way. It is soul satisfying. Think of it : "the ancient sea still pulses within our veins and we are made of the atoms of long dead stars" The sad thind is that the deluded evangelists feel the same way about their illusions. Their faith is misplaced. I feel sorry for them but at least they feel good about themselves.
