I'm trying to get internet access for my Wii, and I'm not going to purchase a wireless router because I ordered one with a laptop that's coming in a month. I was hoping there would be some way to use my USB adapter as an access point so that I can still access the internet from my Wii in the meantime.

Nope, the wireless USB adapter isn't an access point.
I suppose with Linux and a PC with a regular network card in addition to the wireless adapter you could concoct something (like an ad-hoc network between the Wii and the computer, forwarding the traffic to the wired network) but that requires another computer and potentially hours of configuration fun.
Does the Wii have a regular wired port where you could plug in a CAT5 cable?

It could very well be that they won't work together. Is the access point using encryption? Does the wireless adapter even detect the access point? The broadband wouldn't really have anything to do with it. If the wireless adapter isn't picking up the netgear ap at all, then it is either defective or it just isn't compatible.

Yes it would be possible, But the thing is... how much do you want to have to go through to get it done...????

That is a live cd distro that will allow you to use a pc as an access point...
If you wanted to have it on a pc that was running windows you would need to run it inside VM Ware as its own os....
As I said... can be done... just not easy... might as well just go and buy a access point... they are pretty cheap now...
