Okay, is it just me, or do some people who go to yard sales really need a lesson in manners? We had a multi-family yard sale this weekend, and there were so many rude people, more than I have encountered before. Some examples:
1. This man walked the whole way through, looked at everyone's items for sale, and then said very loudly, "There's nothing here but JUNK!"
2. My sister-in-law had a sofa for $10. A lady walked by, looked at it, and said, "$10 for that? I wouldn't take that crap if you gave it to me for free."
3. Another lady stopped at my table with her husband, who was looking at a coffee maker I had for sale. He wanted to buy it to replace the carafe they had broken. I had $5 on it, and was ready to lower it to $3 if they just wanted it for the carafe. His wife got really snippy and said, "Why should I pay $5 for that when I can get a brand new one for not much more?" I didn't bother offering the lower price.
Anyone else have rude people at their yard sales?

Anytime you deal with the general public, you are going to have rude people. In retail, you have to suck it up. With a yard sale, you can be rude right back.

But you wouldn't want to be rude because that is rude right? My stock response for rude, snotty people who say things like that is to tell them that they are free to look elsewhere. The ones who say, "I'll give ya $X for it" I work with, even if they are a little terse.

My Honey has a tendency to be embarrassing at a yard sale. What he says may be correct but he doesn't need to be loud about it. When you see things being charged at practically a new price it is hard not to mention it. I have been to sales where they will get something at the dollar store and then sell it for $1.50. If people have something in our town that is kinda of bad like a floppy over-stuffed chair, they will set it on the curb with a free sign on it. It will sit and sit and sit and no one ever takes them. I wish they would take them away. One thing that upsets me about yard sales is the amount of fuel I use to run around looking for the sale only to find out it was over two months ago. Some people are so disrespecful that they don't take down their signs and don't care if anyone is inconvenienced. I am nice to everyone and respect their space whether I agree with their price or not. The people that charge more are usually the ones that had to work hard for them in the first place. Blessings Mmm

I haven`t had any experience with yard sales so far, but I worked in an info booth 8 hours a day for ten days and the people were SO rude... There were some exceptions, of course, but also people who treated me like a servant, practically threw the money at me while paying, insulted me because I didn`t know where my town got the fences to put around the stages for the concerts... It was horrible.
Some people, really, should learn how to behave themselves!

There are 2 key issues for a great backyard sale. good climate and good signage from the main important streets on your domicile. shop all your signs and indications uniform and use some balloons on each and each sign. This makes it less demanding from a driving force's view. yet another important piece of advice, look ahead to undesirable human beings. Will an person be there? Be risk-free.

There are always rude people at yard sales.

But it is nice when you come across the nice ones, and they make your day because they are happy to do business with you.

I remember when i was 10, i had this bike that i had used only about 5 times, i bought it for 100 dollars with my first Communion money, and this guy came up and asked the price and i said, well i was hoping that people would name their price, and the guy offered me 5 dollars!
I was like, umm I've only rode it 5 times and it is pretty much new.. and he wouldnt budge his offer.
Then that day we went out to buy lunch, i saw him driving his pretty Jaguar.

what a jerk.

I had a garage sale 3 weeks ago and it is the last one I'll ever have. Yes, people think they have a right to leave their manners in the car! Why is that -I don't know! What really got to me is the lady who wanted me to lower the price on a 50 cent toy!!!!

Sadly I think people are just getting ruder generally. We go to a lot of car boots sales here in the UK and I hear it time and time again. Whilst I might THINK these things about some of the stuff I see there, I would never voice it within miles of the stallholder.

No, I never had that happen. I only had one garage sale, and sold out in a half a day. People always want something for nothing. How rude to say those things to you.

I don't do yard sales...I give everything to Charities. Aside from the hassle of having a yard sale...you do have to deal with a lot of trashy rude people
