She asked in YA why people are shy to give stars, that she's got 14 best answers but they give her 8 stars. It looks to me like she wants people to be generous with stars. So I told her that I like giving it all when I choose the best answer, I rate the best answer I choose the maximum....at least I can make someone smile.

She picked my answer and gave me 1 star...the lowest. I assumed she wasn't that satisfied but then I checked all the best answers she picked and she gave them all the one or two star rating which is the lowest. I don't get her because she wants people to be generous but then she is not....do you get what's up with her?

Nope, can't say that I do.

But I remember from one of my counseling classes that the thing we dislike most about ourselves is often the thing that bothers us most about other people, or vice versa (I can't remember how it was worded). Like you get irritated with critical people, but you yourself are very critical of others. Kind of sounds like her....

There are two kinds of stars here; it isn't clear to me that you're talking about the same ones.

There are stars for questions; anyone can give 1 star to a question, if they think it's a good or interesting question. (At least, that's what they're supposed to be for.)

Then there are the stars you're talking about, that the asker gives an answer they have chosen as Best. Only the asker can give them, and they give between 1 and 5 stars.

Neither, BTW, has any effect on points.

The stars given to questions make them more prominent by putting the question in the Popular Questions list, and in the Starred Questions lists of those who gave them. (They also appear in the starer's Fans views.)

The stars given for answers just tell everyone how well the asker thought the answer answered their question or helped them, or how much they liked it.

I find it odd to worry about any of this, as it's all up to the people clicking to give or not give more or fewer stars, and they don't have much effect.

I often forget about the stars -- which is a shame, as it has some good effect to give interesting questions a star.

I don't understand what is so important about thumbs up and best answers and stars....I mean,,,what do you get out of it. Satisfaction that someone liked your question or answer. Maybe some need that more than others. I just find this fun and if I help someone with an answer, that's good....if I make someone laugh,,that's good...Have you ever taken a look how many questions and answers some of those on level 7 have....47,000 or some insane figure...they need a life...

Someone was even upset over a thumbs down the other day...There are idiots on here who spend the whole day, going around and giving thumbs up and thumbs down...I guess they think it will help their cause..like an atheist who gives all Christians a thumbs down and all atheist a thumbs up...who cares!

It,s wrong to ask or demand stars for answering questions. It,s inappropriate and rude.Don,t give her or anyone a star or stars unless you feel they deserve them. She is behaving unfairly.

She's plain crazy. Don't bother thinking about her and find a healthy one.
