well before my child was 6 months old, i though he had colic(all the dpctors told me) and now i have found out that he actually has acid reflux. i have been feeding him zantac for a week now adn no results. he still arches his back in pain while i feed him. i want to know is that if there are other medicines, besides zantac, that can help my baby.

is he bottle fed or breast? if he's on formula then try the nutramagin made by enfamil...it's for both colicy babies and babies with reflux. enfamil also makes the a.r. formula...that's for the reflux. i dont know much about the medicines, but try those formulas. they're both really gentle on tummies so unless he's allergic to milk protein he should do just fine on them. good luck :)

My baby has this, too. It took a few tries of adjusting the amount of Zantac before we noticed a difference...and we also noticed that whenever the dosage was changed (or even when we first started), we didn't see a change for 2 or 3 days. Seemed to take that long to get into her system. So, if she misses a couple of doses in a day, we *might* see more spitting up & such right away, but we don't usually see if it for a couple of days. Also, if you're breastfeeding, be very careful of what you're eating. I'd read that you could continue eating anything while nursing that you were able to eat when pregnant & that simply wasn't the case for us. I avoid spicy & gassy things, and I cut out dairy entirely for a while. I eat some dairy now, but only in limited amounts. I burp my baby often while nursing her or giving her a bottle when we're out. I don't let her get to the point of screaming because she swallows so much air & has even more trouble then. I also make sure she sits upright for at least 20-30 min. after feeding--sitting up against me or in her swing. She's a little crunched-over in her carseat, but my pediatrician did recommend allowing her to sleep in the carseat during the day--after she's been up for a while after eating. Hope you'll find some relief very soon for your little guy!

It could be GERD and it could also be food allergies. If breastfeeding you might consider keeping a record of when/what you ate and see how he does after he has a feeding if he reacts or not.
The doctors pinned the same diagnosis on my son and it wasn't reflux at all. He was allergic to the formula. Neutramagen is what we had to use on him and yes it's expensive. $25 for 12 ounces of powder. Alimentum is another formula that is basicly the same thing but different brand. My son woulnd't touch the alimentum. If it is allergies to something in the formula giving him A.R. formula won't do a thing to help. All that means is they've added rice to the formula to make it thicker so it's harder for them to spit up. It's the same standard formula. Good luck with your little man. The good news is very soon here he will be eating more baby food and less formula/breastmilk and should be handling things much easier.

My son is 14 months and we found out he had acid reflux when he was about 4 months old. It took a few weeks for the zantac to really start working. If it doesn't start working soon i would ask your pediatrician if he can have a higher dosage. I hope things get better soon.

Well my baby just started vomiting everything! After an upper GI that showed barium being swallowed and then coming back up, we reached the conclusion. At 5 weeks my daughter had to be put on formula with rice so that a thicker substance could stay inside her tummy eaiser and was also put on the RX Prevacid. It's much better now.

My son has had reflux since birth, and he is 4.5 months... He is on zantac the arching of the baby has decreased some, but the amount of spit-up is the same. All his tests have come back normal, I just hope he grows out of this!!!

Zantac didn't work for my son, we had to use Prevacid. It worked MUCH better and it was easier to get him to take as it didn't taste so strong as the zantac.

You could try Similac Alimentum. It is very expensive but worth it if it works for your poor little baby. It is Lactose free and the proteins are broken down for your baby. Some formulas have partially broken down proteins, this one has fully broken down proteins for babies with protein sensitivities like my daughter. Alimentum has been absolutely amazing for my daughter. She has been a whole other baby since we started using it. Good Luck! I hope you find something that works for your poor baby!
