Here's the story: An undercover cop was stationed in a restroom at the Minneapolis airport because of complaints of public sex occurring there. Senator Craig entered the restroom, peeped into the stall where the cop was sitting for a couple of minutes. He then entered the stall to the cop's left, tapped his foot, moved it toward the cop's foot, touched the cop's foot, and then slid his left hand (so he reached his hand across his body) along the divider between the stalls. The cop could tell that it was his left hand because of the position of the fingers and the gold wedding ring. Cop shows his badge, Craig shows his Senate card and says, "What do you think about that." He is arrested, questioned, blah, blah, blah.
He eventually pled guilty, but covered it up. This is the big sticky wicket. He should have pled not guilty. He should have fought the charges, as it's really a he said-he said situation. When Craig went through the "mating dance," he and the cop were the only two in the restroom. But he didn't. He probably thought he could keep it quiet and make it go away if he pled guilty. It somehow got to folks at the Hill newspaper, Roll Call.
It also looks bad that someone else has claimed he has had sex with Craig in restrooms at Union Station (in Washington, DC), which is even more worrisome, as the restrooms in Union Station are pretty disgusting. I hate to have to pee there; the idea of having sex there is truly nasty. I believe he was also implicated in the page sex scandal of 1982.

He made a pass at an undercover cop in an airport men's room. The cop had been stationed there to stop just that sort of activity and had already arrested a number of men doing exactly the same thing as Senator Craig. Craig did not deny his intentions and plead guilty in court. It was only much later when his job was threatened that he changed his story and insisted he wasn't guilty.
What I find troubling about the Senator's public response as well as the response of many people here is that they are focusing not on what he was arrested for, making an indecent propsal in a public restroom, but on whether or not Craig is gay, which apparently they consider to be far worse. Some have argued that as long as there are openly gay congressman who are Democrats, that we are being unfair in holding Craig accountable, as if the real crime is being gay. Craig continues to insist that he is not, and that he only plead guilty because he was confused.

From what I can gather he tapped his foot three times and then slid it under the stall next to him (some kind of code for I want sex) Then he leaned over and slid his hand up and down the bottom of the stall

He was caught soliciting sex from a police officer. The only thing that we don't know is whether he wanted to get the oral sex or give it.

HE WAS SUPPOSEDLY BUSTED FOR SOLICITING FOR SEX.
HE HADN'T DONE ANYTHING SEXUAL AT ALL. THE GUY IN THE NEXT STALL WAS A PRIVATE DETECTIVE.
THEY HAULED HIM IN AND HE PLED GUILTY TO DISORDERLY CONDUCT A LESSER CHARGE BECAUSE THE COP SCARED HIM INTO THINKING HE WOULD BE CHARGED WITH A SEX CRIME. HE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN AN ATTORNEY AS HE HADN'T DONE ANYTHING.
I WOULD CHECK ON THE PRIVATE DET. AND SEE IF HE IS A DEMOCRAT.
REMEMBER WHAT NANCY PELOSI SAID TO THE PRESIDENT AND THE CONGRESS. THERE IS A NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN.
MAKES ME KIND OF WONDERING IF HE WASN'T SET UP TO GET RID OF THE REPUBLICANS AND MAKE THEM LOOK BAD....
