First things first: Slow down.

If your writing is any indication of the quality of or attention that you are giving your homework, then I don't think it is the environment you are attempting to do it in.

*Though your distractions may be more internal than external, the practice of creating an almost zen-like environment can help still your mind enough to focus.

Distractions include phone calls, text messages, thinking about things that don't associate with homework, your parents calling to you, siblings, pets, traffic noise. What works for me is to put a fan on the other side of the room, it gives a constant humming sound that does a good job of covering up distracting noises. I inform my cohabitants that I will be busy with my homework, or writing, or painting, or meditation etc (whatever requires privacy/focus) informing them not to disturb me unless the house is on fire.

*When I study, I may put some light ambient music on at a low volume, as long as it doesn't prove too distracting. I slow down and think about my homework, taking notes out of my books even though nobody will ever see the notes. Even though I may never look at those notes again, the act of writing them neatly as I read helps concrete the information in my head.

*Different types of homework may require different environments. For math, I like the dining room table when nobody is home. For history, I prefer the library at my school. For English, I prefer the computer desk if I'm writing, or the couch if I'm reading.

*Homework doesn't always have to be done at home, either. If you have free time at school, say before after or at lunch time, break free from your friends for a half hour and sit in the library.

*Find a study partner for each topic. Meet after school or during breaks and work with another person for the hard stuff, but remember, having a partner doesn't mean that they are doing all the work. This will actually help prepare you for college study groups.

*Mentally block out entire evening for study. If you aren't worried about getting your homework done by a certain time so you can go see so and so, or watch our favorite t.v. show, or check your myspace, etc, then you won't be distracted by the future, and can focus on the present. If you happen to finish your homework in a timely manner, then you can reward yourself with a phone call to your 'bff'.

You concentrated long enough to write your question. That is progress.

You know this one but take all distractions away from your studying.

Have all the materials that you need. ...paper, pens, pencils, textbooks, assignments, notebooks, dictionary and so on.

You should have sufficient light.

Keep pets and brothers and sisters away.

Do not answer the telephone. Close your cell phone.

Begin with your most difficult assignment first.

The remaining assignments should also be in order form hardest to easiest.

Make sure that you understand what is expected of you when you are given the assignments in class.

Do not snack until you are finished with your homework.

Do your homework shortly after you get home from school.

Do not wait until the last minute to do your long term assignments. Begin them right away.

You can study with a friend as long as you can concentrate on your work and not gabbing.

Have a clear desk.

Ask questions in class if you do not understand something.

Have a neat notebook separating the different subjects.

If you have a loose-leaf notebook use reinforcements and dividers. For a particular subject have at least three section homework, classnotes and materials given to you in class.

Get a three hole punch and use it for handouts and tests. Insert neatly in the appropriate subject and section.

Spend some time going over the days work to make sure that you did not only do the assignments but that you also understand it.

Spend some time on the weekend to review the weeks work in each subject.

Do not give up. Changing your pattern and habits is not easy.

You have half the battle. You know your problems and your weakness and the same disastrous results each year. Follow the advice here and the together with other advice that you may received.

I inserted some sites below that will help you. Read them and save them and refer to them periodically.I wrote an article in one of them.

Good luck and do not get discouraged. Changing long ingrained habits is not easy. The results will be worth it.

I used to have that problem too. Well, the thing is , you're probably not motivated enough. First, sitting in an office with no distraction whatsoever is a very good decision. Make sure you don't do anything else in that work place(where ever your work place is) besides work.
If you want to do other things like take naps or eat, do it somewhere else, dont do it at the desk because through experience, I know it becomes a habit and the next thing you know, all you are doing there is sleeping or reading Seventeen Magazine.
Secondly, before you start working, you can try to focus your mind. Like, before studying for a test, I would sit at the desk, close my eyes for a minute, blank out my mind, clear it, and train it to focus. It does take some training, but its worth it, trust me;-)

And most importantly, you need motivation. Think about all the advantages you'd be getting from your good grades, like getting into all those perfect colleges with your perfect SATS or GPA scores and all that;-)

Goodluck

Hope that helps;-)

Write down all the things that are distracting you, like if you're worried about plans for the weekend or whatever, or you keep replaying a conversation from earlier in the day. Then literally set that list aside while you do your homework.

Unburdening your mind of things that are distracting you will make it easier to think about the task at hand, and in addition, writing it down helps you realize what is causing the distraction so now you know what to look out for. When you catch yourself slipping into those thoughts again, remind yourself that you are not doing that right now, you are doing homework.

This journaling type of exercise has helped me numerous times when I've had trouble falling asleep, so maybe it could help with homework too.

Hello!

Well I think while working you should keep reminding yourself that you have to do it for your own good. And for concentration you should know the material which you are studying so at school you should concentrate & listen to the lectures carefully. So it would be easy for you to do your homework with concentration as you would know it very well. Take a break after 5mins to refresh your mind but not to long just for a minute. (in break eat a piece of chocolate as you are using your brain so it would help) Sit straight in your chair while working & don't think of anything else except for your work at that moment. Sleep well & eat well as it will help in your studies. Drink a milk of cup & do your breakfast regularly. I know this is too much but believe me this has really helped me a lot. Main thing is that don't think that you can't concentrate instead of that think you can concentrate, you should & you will.

Good Luck for your studies & Bye!

you sound worried about the work you are about to do. If there is something you don't understand and is making it hard for you to know where to start then you won't be able to concentrate for worrying. make some postcards with important points on the subject, write down everything to do with the subject, then piece them together. This system is also good for reviewing your work for examinations....

e.g. about photosynthesis.

draw a plant. draw the sun.. draw water at bottom..... put a link between green in plant, water, and sunlight put in brackets (carbon dioxide breathe in thro day, oxygen at night) = sugars (which used for energy) sugar is the plants food.

you can then add more details but a quick look will refresh your memory for revision.

This may relax you and then can concentrate better because you are more confident about what you are writing.

This system can be used for any subject.

Maybe you are able to concentrate better with noise. So set up your study area (preferably a desk) with music. Then you should be good to go. :)
