This is why we don't win them anymore.

WWII when in doubt we bombed. And we won.

Vietnam, when in doubt we bombed - and that worked. Then we stopped doing that and we lost. Then we started doing that again after it was too late but that was enough for us to get out without surrendering S. Vietnam - we just left it for the S. Vietnamese to defend, which they actually did for over a year and a half.

Why do we BOTHER building planes and bombs anymore?

Who CARES what the political fallout will be - - - THE AMERICA HATERS IN THE US AND WORLDWIDE HAVE ALREADY MADE UP THEIR MINDS, NOBODY NEW IS GOING TO HATE US JUST BECAUSE BOMBING ALSO TAKES OUT A FEW "INNOCENT CIVILIANS."

Wars are officially declared. Police actions are not. The current debacle in Iraq is technically a police action since no formal declaration of war was ever made.

Because of International law and because innocent civilians in another country are human beings too. There is no justification for what you suggest, not in humanism, not in Christianity and not in Islam. You're using terrorist logic(who cares about civilians?)
The Geneva Conventions consist of four treaties formulated in Geneva, Switzerland, that set the standards for international law for humanitarian concerns.

The Fourth Geneva Convention (or GCIV) relates to the protection of civilians during times of war "in the hands" of an enemy and under any occupation by a foreign power. This should not be confused with the better known Third Geneva Convention, which deals with the treatment of prisoners of war. The convention was published on August 12, 1949, at the end of a conference held in Geneva from April 21 to August 12, 1949. The convention entered into force on October 21, 1950.

My guess is that the thought goes back to what was done in Europe and Japan. The rebuilding and stabilizing of the countries wouldn't allow another regime with evil intentions to come to power. Remember, the end goal is world peace. The thought is that if people could make a decent living and have some freedom, they wouldn't ever allow a heavy handed dictator into power again. That's proving much more difficult these days. Besides that, I don't see where it'll work in all cases.

The terrorists in Iraq hide amongst civilians. Widespread bombing of civilians areas wasn't a big tactic in WW2 or Vietnam.

oh yes, continue bombing civilians because, after all, we've been doing for years anyway. yeah right! one of the biggest reasons we shouldn't be doing that is so that we don't piss them off anymore. do you want more terrorist attacks? this isn't like the tanks and blitzkrieg of the Germans, this is guerilla warfare, and no matter how many bombs and crap we drop, it'll always be a possibility

get out of iraq.

even nevertheless that is not any longer politically the suited option, I want to call it a "police action"; by way of fact the Korean conflict became mentioned as. we've not have an certainly conflict by way of fact the 2nd W.W. the place conflict became declared. whilst no person has declared conflict, how are you able to've a conflict? by utilising the way, did you recognize that N. Korea has in no way signed the peace accord? So, technically, they nevertheless sense that they have the the suited option to bypass the border into S. Korea & kill those patrolling that border, consisting of American forces & they do!

Our military is to defend the rights of our consitution and to oppose any threat thereof, protecting the citizens of the U.S. Perfectly legit reason to have a military.

Pearl Harbor and 9/11 are prime examples why we need planes and bombs. If not, we're just sitting ducks in the path of destruction.

Moral superiority?

If there's no difference between us and the terrorists, then we have become terrorists.
