I have a 2000 dodge stratus with the 2.5 v6 with about 133000 miles on it. When I really step on it the engine makes popping sounds in the upper RPM band. If I drive it easy nothing but the every once and a while dip in idle rpm. This car does not have a serviceable coil, I have to get a whole other distributer. I really do not know what else it could be it had a tune up not to long ago and still the problem remains, also it never throws any codes to scan.

thanks to any one who can help with this problem.

if your driving at a low rpm and floor it and you get a bucking and popping but no codes it sounds like an ignition problem (plug wires cap rotor coil) this shouldnt have any affect on idle rpm. check the inside of the dist cap for black streaks that look like lightning bolts, check that no plug wires are burned or pinched or otherwise manhandled. if nothing pull the spark plugs and look for black lines down the white outsides. also look at the plugs for one thats a little blacker than the rest. you should be using champion plugs in chryslers. and the other parts from the dealer or napa or car quest.
