The formula for the area of a rectangle or square is LENGTH times WIDTH.
So substitute:
A = L x W
A = 5 x 9
A = 45
Always is in square (inches/ meters/ etc.)
The are of the rectangle is 45 square inches.

Area = 1/2 base times height
triangle 9" wide and 5" tall
1/2 of 9 is 4.5
4.5 times 5 =22.5 sq. inches
if you use the base as 5" and height as 9 " answer is same
1/2 of 5=2.5
2.5 times 9=22.5 sq. inches
