4a - 6 = -2a + 14 .... add 2a to both sides
6a - 6 = 14 .... add 6 to both sides
6a = 20 .... divide both sides by 6
a = 20/6 ... simplify
a = 10/3 = 3⅓ = 3.333~

4a + 2a = 14 + 6
6a = 20
a = 20/6
a = 3 1/3 (3.33333333..)
