absolutely. some people would tend to judge that they can't do it because no one has ever done it. THAT IS SO WRONG! it's was like saying kobe can't do 81 points because no player in his era has ever done it. Phoenix Suns is a highly talented team, they're also creative with the basket. With those qualities, i believe they can outplay the spurs in defense again just like what they have done yesterday. THEY ARE A DEFENSIVE TEAM. It's just a matter of keep on being committed and perseverance. Expect the Phoenix Suns to make history. It's 07-08 season, lots of amazing stuffs: lakers number 1 despite poor start, rockets 22-game winning streak, great turnaround by the celtics, great year by the 76ers, lots of stuffs to mention. It's NBA, where amazing happens. And this time, It's the Phoenix Suns' turn to rewrite history.

At this time the Suns have some serious problems. Amare will have to play center again this year if the Suns do not add someone, loosing Thomas will hurt, they needed more in the post even before they lost him. Marrion will have to play PF, he would be better at SF. Grant Hill can not be counted on, he has heart and of course experience, but is just to old and injury prone.
Last year in the regular season the Suns out scored their opponents by more than 7 points, but they are weak defensively, they can get by in the regular season because they create match up problems and are explosive, but in the playoffs, in a seven game series they will have to go through teams that are deeper in the post and not just deeper but better because Amare is just not enough. Utah with Boozer and a true center, Houston with Ming, San Antonio deep and talented as well as rugged in the post, Denver with Carmelo Anthony who could well keep Amare in foul trouble, and even another team not really suited for the playoffs, Dallas with Dirk and a couple of centers, could all beat the Suns. And the Suns were not great on the road last year another bad sign for the playoffs.
Amare needs to get much smarter, he commits far to many fouls on plays that are essentially over. As the only post presence on the team he has to put in substantial minutes and be able to play hard and that means avoiding foul trouble and he has to be around late in games.
I know the Suns love Barbosa but, I would be shopping him around right now for some post help. Alando Tucker was a steal with the 29th pick in the draft, he might have some value on the market.
As they are now and as they were last year they are just not built for playoff success. To small in the front court and nowhere deep enough. I doubt they can win as many games this year as they did last, and they are not the most talented team in the league, Nash makes all of them look better than they are, in that regard the team has good chemistry.
Some day a team like the warriors will win a championship. Jordan and the Bulls won without a dominant back to the basket big man, and except for Ming, Howard and Oden there are not many on the horizon. Not immpossable that this is the year that things will change and the new type of post player a (slasher/jump shooter who is solid in transition) leads his team to the championship. Something worth noteing is that the other good undersized team in the league played much better team D than the Suns, the Warriors led the league in steals and had a really nasty attitude that the Suns are unable to match.

As a SUNs fans I have to say ... NO!
Honestly I have my reservations about them, if they
will be better or worse. If I had to guess I'd say they
will take a step back. I would not be surprised if
Lakers beat them in the first round.
Kurt Thomas was the only interior defense they had,
and adding DJ Strawberry and Tucker is good but
they are Rookies. Barbosa and Marion don't make
the big shots, and Grant Hill is a veteran which is good
but his game is similar to the rest of their players.
I think Nash, Amare are the only two MVP type players
they have, and Nash is due for a bad season he has
been tearing up the league. So based on Law of
Averages, I am going to go with Dallas to get back
to the Finals, them or San Antonio. Maybe the
SPURs can repeat, they have brought in nice talent
in the off season. I think they improve more than the
SUNs.

Suns are the best regular-season team in the NBA. Their style isn't the best for the playoffs.
Teams like Detroit, San Antonio and Denver are built for the postseason.

WHAT?!
Spurs have 4 rings and ferocious defense. Phoenix will join Dallas in the also ran-category when the playoffs roll around.
Suns ARE the most fun to watch play, though.
