the integers are the set of numbers { 0, 1, -1, 2, -2, 3, -3, ....}

the whole numbers are the set { 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ....}

the natural numbers are the set { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, ....}

the rational numbers are any number that can be defined as a ratio of two integers, such as 1/2, 3/4 5/3, 10987/ 123

any number than cannot be represented as a ratio of two integers is defined as an irrational number, such as e, pi and Sqrt(2)

Sqrt(2), pi, e, 1/3, 5/2, 9.8 are all examples of numbers that are not integers.
