I ordered my Compontnets, and they came earlier today, and have nearly finished building my pc.

Though i have one problem.

This is what it says in my motherboard manual:

1.6.1 ATX power connectors:

ATXPWR1 : ATX 24-pin - DONE that bit

ATX12V 8pin Power connector

This one supplies power to the CPU. The system will not start without connecting power to this one.

Thats the one im stuck on, its an 8-pin (2rows 4across)

And it gives the impression i need to plug a power supply cable to this socket, but i appear not to have any 8pin leads off my PSU.

Im using a Coolermaster eXtreme 500w PSU and an Abit AN52 mobo. (AMD)

Do i need an 8pin connector or could i use two 4pins possibly.?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but im abit of a nub at this stuff so any help is apprechiated.

Assuming you ordered all th stuff from same supplier call them and make the point they sold you a motherboard and PSU that cannot work together . . ask them to exchange PSU for one that will work. make the point that you asked for help when purchasing so you can HOPEFULLY avoid paying the return postage on the old PSU

If you have two 4pin cpu connectors plug then both in. They come that way because some boards only have a 4 pin cpu connector so one 8pin connector won't work. most boards with 8 pin cpu connectors will work with only one 4 pin connector in.

ok your psu has 1 big connector that separates 4 pins detach
the 4 pins and connect the bigger end to atx board connector
the 4 pin connector you separated you do not use.now there is a 4 prong square connector on your psu that should go into a 4 prong
connect on your board not to far from cpu.hope this helps

Power supply pin connectors are fool proof. this 8 pin connector is an optional, your mother board needs only this 24 pin connector and the 4 wire connector... and the rest is for your drives and cooling fan. make sure you have also SATA cable adapter if you are using SATA Hard disk...

Im short, you probably should have bought a power supply with an 8-pin connector.

Carefully read the manual for the mobo, and the documentation for the power supply!
