Probably you have some spyware on your system. You can get rid of it using free programs such as:
1) SuperAntiSpyware
2) Microsoft Windows Defender (if you use Vista you already have this)
3) Spybot

If I were you I'd also install a free antivirus software (even temporarily) and scan your system. Google for AOL antivirus or AVG Free

1. Switch to mozilla firebox as your default browser. That blocks 90% popups

2. Download spyware terminator with clam antivirus for free. Do a full virus and spyware scan.

That should take care of the problem.

You have spyware on your computer. Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D are the industry standard tools for removing spyware from a system. Both are free for personal use.

If you are not surfing the internet, but still connected, then you might be getting them through the "Messenger Service". You can disable this by going to the Control Panel, selecting Administrative Tools, clicking "Services", double-clicking "Messenger", and selecting "Disabled" in the drop-down box.
