If you are piggybacking off someone's network without their consent, you are committing an unlawful act.
If you are running a wireless router, encrypt it, so you don't tempt people.
If you are piggybacking off your Aunt's house, or otherwise with consent, you may have more options: Ask her to move the router, (higher is better) buy her a high performance antennna, or offer to replace the router entirely for her.
At your end, there are high performance receiving antennae, and I have seen jury-rigged lash-ups using television lead-in wire (not coax). Location also has quite a bit to do with it. Other answers here have some interesting links. Good Luck!

hooking a wire to an antenna may do something to help, but in general, the inconvenience caused by having a metal coathanger stuck out the window will not do much for boosting the signal...piggybacking networks is always a big pain, because you are completely at the mercy of the network admin, and most, if not all, won't let it happen for long if they detect it, because it is a huge security risk...
that and it sounds like you're pretty much on the edge of that network's broadcast range, so unless you get an antenna with a signal amplifier, you may not have much of a choice but to deal with the connectivity issues...
i used to have piggybackers on my network that were nearly tripling my bandwidth consumption...had to shut down the wireless broadcast, because my router log was showing intrusion attempts on the system...

Download a program called network stumbler. This can help you get a better signal by showing signal strength changes as you move around. Find the best location for your antenna this way.

If you want to increase your antennas signal strength or build a fairly cheap new one go here --> http://www.engadget.com/2005/11/15/how-to-build-a-wifi-biquad-dish-antenna/

Using other people's wireless without consent is illegal, you can go to prison for five years for doing so. That would really be silly. As it is you can't do anything to improve the signal.
