True communism, along with socialism and anarchy, while being ideal philosophies, cannot succeed on a large scale. In a communal setting of like-minded people it can and does work. However, it is not suitable for an entire country, mainly due to human greed and lack of control/restraint upon the government. As history has shown, the result is that a dictatorship or similar form of government takes over and exploits the people.

The form of communism we have seen in the past is comparable to all forms of "isms". The communal aspect as a desirable form of government has not been considered much less practiced. Christianity is the best form of social government, and may even be the model for the original concept of communism and the original intent of Islam.

Communism never had a chance of success. Fair and equal is impossible. It is not a form of government that could ever succeed. Look at the history. It ends up a dictatorship. Stalin, Mao, Castro. They all lived pretty well along with the upper echelon of the party while the rest of the country lived in poverty. These countries couldn't support themselves. Cultural revolutions, five year plans, none of it worked.

Is like all ideologies, each one has a time to born, live and died. Communism changes many things, not all was bad or at least not worst than Nazism or others. Is important to know that Socialism has nothing to do with Communism. The thing is that Neo-Nazis and Right win parties want to make us thing that it is the same because they know that is the only opposed force against their love for money and power.

It will never work. I see some body said it can work on a small scale but I disagree. Maybe for a short time but in the long haul it fails at every level. Communism and socialism are essentially the same and socialism is doomed to failure also. Its like Churchill said...

"Capitalism is the unequal distribution of blessings, Communism is the equal distribution of misery."

Also -

"Socialism is like standing in a bucket and trying to lift yourself up by the bail."

Communism will never work. It is a theory that can't be applied in real life because people are not equal from the beginning: some are smart, while some aren't; some are beautiful some are ugly; some are healthy etc.
The most important thing is that communism kills competition, it kills the desire to work hard and enjoy what you earn . With communism it goes like this: everyone gets equally poor, not equally rich.

communism on paper is a perfect society. but in reality someone is always calling the shots and in control. I guess the answer is that it has not been practiced correctly. I don't think it ever will.

Communism has never been achieved. Communism is really the objective...and that has never happened. What we have had is a bunch of dictators and despots and "parties" that take control of a country and eliminate free enterprise, and use the fact that they are striving for a eutopia as a justification for all sorts of control of the people.

The thing is is that any government can work, if A) It is the right government for the time (Questionable) and if B) It's the right country to try it in (Probably not).

Communism didn't seem to work right, but nothing works perfectly. You need the right scenario.
