I have a coin collection, but the old ones I don't know how to clean the rust or whatever it is. Any tips?

Don't clean them. If they have rust it has eaten into the coin and it's removal will cause a hole where it was. Coin collectors do not clean coins, for they lose their value. Real valuable coins are sent to conservators who at a very high price try to salvage them. They know what can and can not be done.

My husband has coin collection too. I try to soak them with liquid soap mixed with chlorine overnight. then washed them thoroughly and while they're wet , spray them with silver liquid cleaner called in swedish "silverputs -Häxan brand" i dont know in English. Wipe them thoroughly with wet handtowel/brush them one by one.Wash them with soap and water , then wipe them to dry.The result is glansing. There's no harm in trying,try it
