Most clams are filter feeders. This means they suck micro nutrients out of the water and eat plankton a such.

The so called filter feeders, oysters and clams, eat plankton. By pumping water through their bodies, the mollusks strain the microscopic organisms through their gills, which act as sieves.

so in short form, they eat tiny organisms in the water :)
hope i could help!
