No, it's not true at all.
A study was conducted that disproved this myth. Goldfish were fed through a food dispenser that would only dispense food when the goldfish pushed on a lever in the tank. After the fish learned that they had to press the lever to get food, the scientists made it so the food could only be dispensed at certain times of day. Eventually the fish only tried to dispense the food at the correct times of day.

Nope, it's absolutely false. It's been proven so many times.
I think that someone came up with that theory when they were watching a fish trying to eat the same piece of poo twice in 5 seconds or something. They will do that. They'll put it in their mouth and then spit it out and then 3 seconds later try to eat it again. Don't ask me why, but they definitely have memories longer than 3 seconds! They have social relationships and can be trained to perform tasks that they will then remember for months.
Check out this cool video in the link below on goldfish that were trained to do synchronized swimming!

Fish have quite advanced memories. This is proven by association. Most fish will get excited when they see humans and "beg" for food at the front of the tank. This means they have associated humans with food. This proves that fish have memories that last for months+, and likely years.

It's a myth. Goldfish, for example, are one of the most used pets to train for pet-training projects. They can learn to go through loops, tunnels, do flips, and even swim in sync, following hand motions, and they are not even the smartest fish. You can check out the link here:

not likely because of the fact they stay, sleep, breathe and swim in water so on each occasion they open their mouth (and that they try this often) water will straight away enters the Fishs mouth.
