I cannot for the life of me get the belt back on. the bottom bolts (2) are loose enough to let the alternator pivot but it just won't go back on. 2 hours of wasted time . . .

Look close there is a adjuster bolt almost horizonal that you will have to loosen...On the top alternator bolt screws into a block with the adjuster bolt thru it. And if your reinstalling anything that flew off your making a mistake unless you want to do it again very soon. Get a new belt each time you retension a serpentine belt V belt some times I resue.

to get that belt off u would have taken off the a/c belt they are a little different in size make sure u did not get them mixed up.
