They have so much depth at the wide receiver position it is actually kind of scary. They had to cut someone. There is no doubt that Randy Moss and Donte' Stallworth were going to make the team. They were also going to have to keep Wes Welker. Not only is he a good wide receiver he a is a great punt/kick returner. So they had to cut either Kelley Washington, Jabar Gaffney, or Reche Caldwell. If I had to take a guess I would of guessed that the Patriots would of cut Jabar Gaffney. Caldwell has by far the best stats out of those three players. But the reason why they probably cut him was because he was the most expensive and expected more from him last year. This move really does not make a big difference. Caldwell would of been the teams fourth wide receiver. The Patriots also have two wide receiver on the PUP list (Physically Unable to Perform). They are Troy Brown and Chad Jackson. The earliest these players can come back will be week 7 vs the Maim Dolphins. As for Caldwell I do not think he will be having a hard time finding work. Expect a team like the Houston Texans to sign him. He would be a good compliment to Andre Johnson.

Caldwell is a bum. He's a possession receiver who can't catch. What use is that? If the Patriots chose Washington, I wouldn't second-guess their decision.
Keep in mind that Caldwell or Washington would probably be fairly low on the depth chart, so the Pats may have decided which one to keep based on factors other than their receiving abilities, such as which one is a more valuable asset on special teams.

spectacular, spectacular interest! And...that's humorous you point out Caldwell's eyes, because of the fact anyone watching the interest would laugh on each and every occasion they confirmed him. there have been various guesses: Snorted Coke previously the interest, Thyroid or Graves illness, or basically undeniable ole trojan horse Eyes....seems...he has undeniable Ole trojan horse Eyes....permit's call it POBE Syndrome. yet, anyone calls him 'Headlights' with a view to not be impolite. right this is extra from Wikipedia: Donald Reche Caldwell, Jr. (born March 28, 1979 in Tampa, Florida) is an American soccer participant who at present performs huge receiver on the hot England Patriots. he's the older brother of modern-day Florida Gators receiver Andre Caldwell. His nickname is "Headlights" Caldwell, for his quite great eyes (a trait stated by broadcasters John Madden and Al Michaels, and a trait he shares together with his brother).

I gotta agree with Terry C.
Caldwell dropped so many balls out there I thought he was with the Seahawks. The Chargers originally drafted him and they were hurting for receivers, so that has to tell you something about Caldwell's "mad skills".

Uh...Did you watch the AFC Championship game?...He missed a couple of sure TD passes...and ultimately lost it for them...That is exactly why the Patriots revamped the receivers in the offseason...Anyway, where the hell did you hear he got released?...I don't think so...but he's on the bottom of the depth chart...

Its fine. He's ok but they picked up 4 receivers that are better in the off season. He dropped an easy TD in the AFC championship game, that pretty much sealed his fate.

Would you rather have Randy Moss or Reche Caldwell ?
Would you rather have Donte Stallworth or Reche Caldwell ?
No-brainer if you ask me.
