its usually expensive to get someone to resolder the jack to the board ... a couple of hundred dollars anyway ...

the motherboard on any computer is the main piece that everything else attached to. most laptops are multi-layered so resoldering is not an option. you need a new motherboard it would probably be cheaper in the long run just to purchase a new laptop and make the old hard drive an external.

I had that problem. Comp USA wanted $400. I got it fixed at a small shop in Brooklyn for like $80

yep it can cause a fire. the motherboard might need to be soldered.
