I agree with G.K. Chesterton's Father Brown stories and Patricia Sprinkle. Another Christian who wrote excellent mystery novels was Dorothy L. Sayers. She wrote the Lord Peter Wimsey mystery novels (Busman's Honeymoon; Clouds of Witness; The Documents in the Case; The Five Red Herrings; Gaudy Night; Hangman's Holiday; Have His Carcase; The Nine Tailors; Murder Must Advertise; Strong Poison...and others).

Lori Copeland has a mystery series called The Morning Shade mysteries and Jerry B. Jenkins has a Red Rock mystery series and Terri Blackstock has a Cape Refuge series.

There's also Frank Peretti, whose books are mystery/thriller. He's an excellent writer. His books include among others: This Present Darkness; Piercing the Darkness; House (with Ted Dekker, who also writes mystery/thrillers); Monster; The Oath.

I'm adding a note here to point out that a troll just went strolling through this question to give a thumbs down to everyone. I suppose it's someone who doesn't like Christians or thinks no Christian writer can possibly be good? I guess he doesn't realize that Shakespeare and Dickens and Jane Austen and Louisa May Alcott and Lucy Maud Montgomery and J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis and G. Chaucer and Thackeray (and the list goes on and on and on) were ALL Christians!

Try Criss Well and Tim Downs. They write mystery novels that are different in style from any I have seen in the answeres so far. They write traditional mysteries with a christian message

Silver Dagger Mysteries is a mystery line published by a Christian-based publisher. Although I can't speak for all titles, mine are published there, and have no foul language or sex in them.

But "Father Brown " stories are CATHOLIC , he is even a priest. This is not at all what people mean when they say "Christian", as this Questioner does probably. Now let's see-- there are "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle --- oops, another born Roman Catholic. Then there's Edgar Allan Poe -- sorry, maybe that's not exactly what you want either. Well, C.S. Lewis wrote the"Perelandra" series but of course he had religious doubts.

There's also the Brother Cadfael series by Ellis Peters. He's a monk who solves mysteries. There is also a Harlequin-type (please note the -type!) series called Love Inspired Suspense. At my bookstore it's shelved in the Christian Fiction section, and while I haven't read any of them, even if there is romance, it should be clean. Check it out and see if it works for you. Keep in mind there is a Love Inspired series that is NOT suspense, so be careful wich one you grab.

Patricia Rushford has a good series aimed at Christian teen girls called the Jennie McGrady mysteries. I read the first one and it was interesting and well-plotted.
