To help meet expenses we are raising the price of pizza by 15% how much should we raise the price if the pizza is selling for $14.80?

I thought the answer was $2.22. The answer sheet says $2.20?
How is this possible?

10% is $1.48
5% is $ 0.74
15% is $ 2.22

I ,like you, feel that price should be raised by $2.22
However if it has to be rounded to nearest $ 0.10, answer then becomes $2.20

14.80/100*15=2.22
14.80+2.22=17.02
total cost of pizza is 17.02 from 14.80.
if they had used 2.20
this would have left it $17 even
how its wrong is that they just squared it off ..they probably got the same result

the answer is 2.22
but they have an answer in the choice as 2.20 which is also correct for the test but in reality 2.22 is the right amount.

The Pizza Shop doesn't like odd prices on their menu. $2.22 is the right answer.Rather than list it at$17.02, they show $17 even. I'm surprised they didn't say $16.99!

The answer sheet is wrong unless it asked that the final price be rounded to the nearest 5 cents.

Must be a typo - you had it right $2.22. Now, how about a slice of that pizza?
