I just asked a question about my fan problem in my 95 Lumina I would like an in depth answer on what a relay unit is and if I could use the one from my other 95 lumina to replace it?

A relay is a simple electrical device that is normally open or closed and is triggred by power being applied.
Yes they are interchangable as long as they can handle the same amprage. If you move it from the same model car to another that is used for the same reason then it will work.

The switch to turn the fan on can't carry the high amperage necessary to control the fan motor, so you need a relay in between the two. A relay's output contacts carry the amperage necessary to power the fan motor. There are thousands of relay types and the best way is to replace a relay with the correct part number. See if the part number is the same by looking up both vehicles on http://www.autozone.com for that part. Better safe than sorry!

Your radiator cooling fan must be electric in order to require a relay. The relay is actuated by the computer in the vehicle at a preset coolant temperature. Also the relay activates when you select the Air Conditioning function. The relay is kind of like a switch, only activated by an electrical impulse or a change in voltage.
