Because human life is endowed with endless possibilities. A glimpse at the achievement of mankind is sufficient to suffuse you with preciousness of life. Also see the faces of your parents, and you will realize what I mean.

don't know if I consider it "precious".
There are moments where one can be ecstatic.
There are also moments when it's"hell" for lack of a better term.
Perhaps some people enjoy the whole procreation deal and then come to believe "family" is the "be all end all".
There is also the bit about how "one" can influence others lives in some positive manner.
Without giving this answer more than a few minutes, I can't say that "life" is any more precious than the "law of the jungle"; Human capabilities may provide instances of enjoyment and fulfillment.
I, for one, never understood the mindset of worshiping a deity for [supposedly] bestowing "life" upon us. [except for the detail the human imagination exerts to give explanation for "why"]
Life being "magic"?
Yes, before the healthy cynicism acquired over time becomes reality.

Life is as precious as you make it.
It isn't JUST a human life that is precious.
Some people maintain their lives for their pets.
They have a dog they are close to, cats that cuddle up to them when they need comfort, a bird that has a song that could lighten the day of a thousand men.
People have these connections and wish it no other way if they are close enough.
People may also have connections with other people.
Life isn't just about spending time with another person but that sure as hell may help you reach your happiness.
If you know that there is someone waiting for you to get home to welcome and comfort you, then it is worth the toil.
Children bring light into the world, therefore, they are precious.
Animals bring light into the world, therefore, they are precious.
Trees, sun, clouds - all precious.
If something brings happiness to another, it is then precious.
The laughter of your children, the smile of your partner, the purring of your kitten, the wagging of tails.
You bring love to the things that love you... but it isn't only that.
You bring love to the things that amaze you, make you happy.
And you make others happy.
I cannot emphasize that enough... happiness makes things precious.
A mind is precious for it is a very complicated road to be on... maps may be necessary when traveling.
A heart is precious for it carries vulnerability. It holds within itself the power to care for others and to accept care from others.
A body is precious for it carries the mind and the heart - it carries the things necessary to live.
The life is precious for it learns from what it sees and sees the things it learns.
When you babysit a child, you must take special care of them for in your hands you hold THEIR life.
THEIR potential to make this world a more beautiful place than it is now.
We have carried the potential to make things better for years upon years upon years... and the ones with a good-spirit are the only ones trying.
Preciousness is rare when you seek such specifics... yet everything can be what you will it to be.

I am not sure human life is precious. Why are we any different then other organisms on this rock floating around the sun?
Humans are egotistical and look for some grand purpose and reason to every little detail.
Americans are especially self centered about the value of theirs lives. We all want to be movie stars.
Only a select few of us transcend this notion and realize that we are just small little cogs in the big picture. We are not different then the thousands of ants we pass over every day and it is inaccurate to think you are more valuable than that.

That's the big mystery isn't it? Its like all the other questions you know what I mean. It's so precious because its all that we really have control over. It's the only thing that one person can relate to another person with. Life. Its also so precious because its so easy to lose. Think of how easily and unpredictably someone could die.

It's not. This is why the planet is so overpopulated with humans. Two people get married and are supposed to have at least two kids. Old people that honestly should have died a long time ago are laying in beds being supported by machines. Everyone forgets that we all die eventually and just because we can't handle loosing our loved ones we need to act like a human life is precious over any other life.

wow I can't believe you think you know what your talking about. Buy the wording of your question, I can tell you think you already have the answer. Am I suppose to think now?
To be honest, I really hate answering a question with one, but I absolutely must.
What makes you think a human life is more precious than any other?

I don't think there is a right answer for this question, It's only what somebody believes about life.
I love living, I love adrenaline... There are so many things I love in this life, some I have, others I want... To me that's why life is precious. Love is the closest thing we have to magic. And life is like magic.

It's not only precious, but look at how mysterious, complex and at the same time how beautiful, breathtaking and amazing it is.
Life in general is precious - not just the human life.

All life is precious to the one holding it; be it human or bird or fish, dog, snake in the grass, deer in the forest, lion in a cage, wasp in the nest behind the hanging plant on my patio; and if one is a sentient being, until one realizes that; then one's life is not precious.

Human life is not only precious but very precious. Why? It is for the simple reason that our soul atman within is the real crux of life... it is our soul atman that has manifested this body... the human form to work out its karma... eradicate the impurities within! Only in the human form can the soul atman regain its lost pure pristine form... never otherwise!
Gaining a seat in heaven (Swarga) is not the crux of life! Never from heaven or hell can the soul atman gain direct entry into the abode of God... the kingdom of God (aka Baikuntha in Hinduism). Only in the human form the soul atman within gets liberated forever from the cycle of birth and death... reaches the last leg of cosmic life... the 8.4 millionth manifestation!
Travel in the human form is the most pleasing experience for the soul atman within. The soul atman reaches the manifest stage of human form after crossing 7.3 million manifestations in the insect, plant and animal form! In the human form alone we have 1.1 million manifestations amongst 8.4 million manifestations on the whole!
The ultimate crux of human life is gaining enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and finally salvation (moksha) by reaching the stage of Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ or Prophet Mohammed! Gaining enlightenment is the end goal of every life form. Whether we start on the spiritual path now or many manifestations henceforth is our sole prerogative!
Who knows what we shall be in the next manifestation! Why not start the spiritual journey now! We must always remember... we have only one life to live! The present life shall not be connected to the next manifestation in any way except the residual balance of karma of the present manifestation.
Based on the residual balance of karma of the present manifestation... the soul atman shall manifest the new life form. The closing balance of the present life becomes the opening balance of the next manifestation! In the domain of God there are no free lunches. As is our karma, so is our future... and accordingly moulds our destiny!
We also need to remember one thing in life... every individual soul atman always remains individual like the individual pieces of a puzzle! Every single individual soul atman has a goal to accomplish! Absence of even one individual piece of puzzle... makes the puzzle incomplete! Every individual entity in the Cosmos has its own purpose of life.
And in that very purpose... that single entity is the king! Does it mean every single human form is the manifest king of ones own life... the master and controller of destiny! Yes... every single human being has an absolute distinct goal of life which none other can fulfill! Manifestation after another... the journey of life for the soul atman within continues!
The moment life reaches 8.4 millionth manifestation... human being gains enlightenment and salvation. However trying the circumstances be in the physical manifest life... no wonder how many times we eat hell for breakfast... how many contemplations of suicide... the day shall arrive when we become the uncrowned king of our destiny... the journey of life!
