I have 2 luminas both 1995 one LS one not. I am using the LS for parts as it is the worse shape of the 2. I having a overheating problem when I started off only one fan that worked on the car we want to use so I figured I would replace the bad fan with the good fan from the LS because both of them worked fine. I replaced the one fan but none of the fans are working. I was wondering if I must replace the whole unit one for the other rather than individual fans or if it could be something else?

those have a relay also for the fan ,and a temperature switch,it could be either one of hose not letting it work right ,if they was working on the other car they have to work on this one if the relays are good, also check and make sure the fuses are good, its usually the relay that goes bad for these, good luck with it.

Check the temp sensor after checking all the fuses! Both fans and fans in general rarely go bad. In most early model cars there are two sensors, one for the computer and one for the fan. The one in the fan is probably less than $20 and is generally located in the Rad or on the Intake manifold.

Sometimes, only one fan will operate during normal driving and the second will only come on with the a/c turned on to aid cooling. Check the fuses, fan relays and temp sensors and also for a good ground.
