Unless you are prepared to support yourself financially, you are going to have to listen to your father. My suggestion is, for now, listen to him. There is no harm in earning an MBA in business, if you want to start your own publishing company, you're going to have to know that any way. While you're studying business, take some electives in writing and see how well you do. You can still follow your dreams, just one step at a time. If all else fails, you will have the financial background and networking to still make something of your life. I understand feeling controlled by your parents, but at this point, you really don't have a choice. Like the saying goes "who ever has the gold makes the rules", and right now, your father is in charge. It is not like he's telling you to do something awful, he has your best interest in mind. You can always be a writer, there is no time limit or shelf life on being able to do so. Who knows, you may be able to use your own experiences to write a book!

I agree that you should use the spell check.
Parents want what's best for their children. This could be financial, cultural or whatever. You can certainly become a non-fiction writer if you wish but don't forget you will need steady pay to live and raise a family. A degree in finance will certainly be helpful wherever you go. Take it one step at a time. There is no reason to get a degree in English just to become a writer. Consider taking elective courses in writing or journalism. Purchase books on writing and teach yourself. Since non-fiction writing is about facts and not imagination generally, you need a good command of language, punctuation, sentence structure etc. This you can get while getting your degree in finance.
You can become whatever you want if you want it badly enough. First consider your father's advice to secure financial stability. It seems he means well. You should sit down and communicate with him about what your dreams are. Hopefully you two have a good relationship where you can talk to one another about things like this. If not, try to develop that type of relationship.
Good luck.

I would follow your fathers advice get a degree in finance, make you connections and then become a writer, you will have something to fall back on then if writing doesn't pan out. Non-Fiction books are easy to write, but what you need is to work on spelling, grammar, and plots, Find a medium that you are comfortable with, and explore. While you are obtaining your degree, I would be taking a course in writing as well so that you can find you own, style. Plus if you write several books and release them at once you are more likely to be noticed more.

Can you assign numbers to having the self confidence to try to live your own life? If it doesn't work out, you can go back for a (boring) MBA.
Can you really know how much money you would make with an MBA?
It sounds like you need to get out of Saudi, and go somewhere with a less closed society, somewhere where your capabilities matter more than your last name, or who your father knows. It sounds like if you stay, you might spend your life living in his shadow. Can't put a number on that, either.
Good luck in whatever you choose to do.

Based on your spelling in this question, I'd say you don't have a hope, sorry. In English, anyway. Your father cares for you and may have a better idea of your needs in this world, why don't you discuss this with him and find out his reasons, tell him your dream and see what he says. Think about his answers. The writing business is a very tough way to make a living and very very few people make it.

I would go with your fathers plan. After you get masters you will be in demand anywhere in the world and can branch out into whatever your dream tells you. You need to understand that you will be old someday and you have a choice now of being old with a masters or old without. His plan gives your more options.

1ST off, your father can not decide your life for you. He can guide you and help you to make decisions on what to do with your life, but in the end the decision in yours. Respect your father because he is only trying to lead you down a path that is best for you. But don't let him crush your dreams. You have a great argument for you to pursue writing.
2ND off, you can submit your book to several different magazines in the USA. http://www.crayne.com/carrplan.html is one site that you can go to that will give you information on where to send your transcript(s).
Good luck.

other countries will recognize your degrees. the only way to know if you will make it as a writer is to write. i suggest that if you choose writing you invest in a good dictionary.
