Why do pregnant women drink???

An accumulation of evidence, however, including some recently published, shows that even light drinking may result in cognitive and behavioral problems that seem not to improve as the child grows older. Fetal alcohol syndrome brought about by heavy drinking is the most common know cause of mental retardation, and yet it is completely preventable. So, why do pregnant women drink?

I really don't think most of them do, for those reasons exactly, but I might be just really naive.

You ask an excellent question. But we live in a free country with a varied gene pool. Unfortunately for many women motherhood is just an accidental byproduct of casual pleasure. They care only for themselves. Most of their male counterparts share the blame.

As a pediatrician I cared for several children with known fetal alcohol syndrome and many others that I suspected but could not prove. I can recall only one mother who went to AA and cleaned up her act. Others were in complete denial and continued breeding affected children. These were the outright alcoholics. The mothers who continued social drinking during pregnancy were harder to snuff out. Some experts in Developmental Pediatrics aver that FAS is easy to diagnose from physical and behavioral characteristics. I think it is often difficult without an admitted history.

Happily, most of the mothers in my practice were good and responsible women and avoided alcohol during pregnancy.

I think because they are selfish and only think about themselves. They are not willing to give up the pleasures of life for a blessing like a baby!

Some women get bad habits when they drink, smoke. or any kinds, during the pregnancy. It is wrong time and wrong place. Try avoid drinking, smoke or anything. but your baby could be hurting their future.

Pregnant women drink because they are selfish and stupid. They smoke, too.

DAMN!!! IF I WAS A KID AND HAD PROBLEMS BECAUSE OF MY IGNORENT MOM WHEN SHE WAS PREGNATE THEN I WOULD BE PISSED AND HATE HER FOREVER
