I've lived in Santee for 15 years after travelling the rest of the world. This is where my wife and I chose to settle down and have a family.

Yes, it's hot in the summer sometimes. But it's rarely humid so you don't even feel it until it reaches 95 or so. We also get a lot less cloudiness that the coast gets in the late spring and early summer. The winters are a little cooler as well, we do get a little frost some days.

The traffic is improving, although not great yet. That will happen when the 52 freeway is finally finished in 2010 but until then expect Mission Gorge Road to have heavy traffic around rush hours.

Santee has a lot of public parks and a great area called Santee Lakes for all sorts of outdoor recreation and camping, although there is a day use fee there. Mission Trails Park is also on the edge of the city.

People are very friendly (small town feel) and the schools are decent, though not top-notch.

As for entertainment, there are good restaurants and shopping. We still don't have a movie theater, but there are several multi-plexes in neighboring cities 10 minutes away. The trolley stops here in the middle of a large modern shopping center. There is also easy access to San Diego via the 125 (to the 94), the 8, and the 52.

There are some new homes going into Santee right now as well which is giving the city some much needed move-up housing.

Overall, we love it here and would not consider moving for anything.

San Diego is nice but Santee's only good point is that rents are less expensive. It is stinking hot in the summer and aside from the movie theatres there is nothing cultural to be found there. No one goes to Santee to have fun; they leave Santee to have fun.

I grew up in Santee. It has grown a lot since then but if you don't mind the traffic it is a great place. Nice shopping but they do have a lot of traffic!!
