When I was very little I had a family of troll-dolls. These were dwarfish-looking creatures with smashed in features and mean expressions on their faces. They usually were androgynous and naked, and had hair that was long and impossibly tangled, and came in all kinds of weird colors; Pink, Green, Yellow, Purple...you name it, I can't remember!
I hated the little critters because they never looked more sophisticated, no matter what clothes, I made them.
Then I started to cut their hair. Give them coifs, but that helped none. One day I cut the Green tousled haired one's tresses to the nub. Only to make me so disgusted I decapitated the little ugly doll!
But I don't think this is the kind of troll you're talking about, are you?
So, never mind.

trolls tend to look different everytime they are shown or depicted. from the tiny dolls with weird hair to depictions of 50 foot monsters. generally there are certain characteristics that a troll has but it can for the most part be made original. it had large sharp teeth, snarls, hairy, and very tall. other things really are subject to change from story to story.
