hi there, i had an accident about 8 weeks ago for going through a red light. There was on witness who saw me going through the light and the other guy who collided with also said i went throught the light at the junction. The police called me in 2 weeks ago for an informal interview where she asked me qustions and i answered and she wrote them down on a piece of paper. After everything she said to me she is going to put forward to the seargant a prosecution for an traffic offence which would give me 3points and 60pounds fine. i said the paper and i told her as far as i was aware the light was green and not red when i wen through it. Is it enough to have one witness to prosecute me ???? plust the police officers who interviewed me said i was a good person and i complied well therefore they would ask the seargant not to prosecute me. so what are the chances ? could they prosecute me if they have only one witness ?

Yes in theory, they could prosecute with one witness. However, it is not the decision of the Police to prosecute. They simply hand all evidence over to the Crown Prosecution Service ( CPS ) who will look at the evidence and see if there is at least a 70% chance of gaining a conviction from it.
The charges could be,
Failing to stop at controlled traffic signals,
Driving without due care and attention,
Wreckless driving by endangering lives
plus more.....

If a person was injured you would be unlikely to be dealt with by a fixed penalty.
Chances are you will be dealt with through the courts.

If you are lucky enough to be offered a Fixed Penalty Notice,
I would accept it and count yourself very lucky.

Good Luck

Yes they could.
Question is was anyone hurt?
If not and you deny the offence then it is very unlikely to get to court. I am sure the witness cant really be bothered with all of that. The CPS will more than likely drop the case before then due to 'lack of evidence'.

However, if it does go to court and you are convicted then you face a much higher fine, more points and costs. You need to choose if its worth the risk.

Yes, they have a year to issue a summons. And they will.

Your only hope is to stick to the lights were green theme and discredit the witness, or plead guilty, which from what you say wouldn't be a bad idea.

they don't need any witnesses. They could prosecute you based on their own findings during their investigation and reconstruction of the accident.
