I am a student about to start sixth form, im taking Art for one of my A levels. My current computer is running extremely slowly, especially when I run photoshop, as it only has 480MB of RAM. The computer is a Sony vaio, which is fully unupgradeable.

The question is Which mac is best for me, because i know that macs are the best for artists and creative individuals like me, so could you please help?

Would you reccommend an iMac (please say what spec version), Mac mini, Mac Pro, Macbook or Macbook pro? Or should I Just get a new pc?

Thanks for your help :)

I personally bought a standard MacBook for my final year of university, and I've thrown everything at it, including having it run both OS X and Windows XP at the same time through Parallels, and it's been able to handle it pretty well.

If you can spend the money, then a MacBook Pro would be the right sort of kit to get, but if money is a constraint, then the MacBook is the way to go.

Even after you've spent the money on the hardware, though, you don't get a lot of software with it. The new iLife is OK, but if you want to do something serious you'll have to spend the cash.

Also, you might be able to get discount on the hardware from Apple, seeing as your in further education. I know that almost all higher education institutes in the UK are eligible for a discount of some sort.

Just some thoughts,
Shafiq.

Stay with the MAC over PC. I like the Mac Pro. You need to ask yourself what bells & whistles do I want, and what my budget can afford.
