There is no reason to. Water is in formula and breastmilk and that's all they need. At 6 or 7 months when introducing a sippy cup is when it's suggested to start offering water.

contrary to what someone else answered i have been told by several doctors that water can hurt a baby. They are getting plenty of water in their formula/breastmilk and you can overhydrate them with water and this can be toxic to their brains. Also the water fills their tummy and makes them think they are full so they dont drink enough milk and they need the nutrition from the milk. You can give a baby up to 2oz of water in a sippy cup or bottle to get tem used to the taste around 6 months.

Never. Water can be extremely dangerous to newborns. They get all the water they need from breast milk and formula. You should google "Nitrate Poisoning" to read up and educate yourself on the topic.
