It happened last Saturday, he does not have bruising or any signs of swelling and the pain is getting worse! It is hard for him to move to the sides. He feels the pain internally. What is going on? Intelligent answer only please. I am very worried, lack of $$$ and no insurance is a problem but if he needs to go, I will take him ASAP.

Broken ribs can be very painful. Unfortunately there's not a whole lot to be done for them unless there's danger to other organs (ie;lungs) As long as he's able to breathe comfortable try Tylenol or Ibuprofen for pain. Don't go with the old standby of taping his ribs as this restricts breathing, and could cause more problems later. Rest is best, and try giving him a pillow to hold against the injured ribs for support while he's sitting. If he develops any breathing problems, or severs abdominal pain in the area take him to the nearest ER

Sounds like bruising. If ribs were cracked, believe me - he would know it! Also be advised that legally - no hospital can refuse to take a patient. You just have to be obligated to paying the debt you create. If he has no insurance and no money, every state has insurance that can facilitate the indigent and others who are unable to pay. One reason I love living in this state is the overflow of hospitals, teaching hospitals and other clinics associated with the many colleges here - including dental.

PROBABLY cracked ribs of cartilige damage there are alot of nerves between the ribs . it will hurt every time he breathes turns bends .6-8 months for total heal maybe longer if reinjured. i know he is not going to do this but every third breath needs to be a full breath to keep his lungs expanded all the way .also DO NOT WRAP TAPE OR ACE BANDAGE AROUND YOUR TORSO lungs cannot expand .you can use tape but not all the way around just on the side where it hurts. there is nonthing a doctor can do but tape you up and they will reccomend to not do it. again full lung expansion.this info is straight from my doctor 7 cracked ribs 4 years ago. should not need a doctor as long as there is no blood in urien or stool .but if your worried go to walkin clinic call first make sure they have xray mach there. should be able to get pain killers there. if not use aleve its the best for pain .tell him next time to run with his feet and not his mouth. lol

It's a broken, cracked or bruised rib.

Wrap his midsection tightly with an ace bandage or two. This will help the pain, until you take him to the doctor.

Take him to the hospital RIGHT NOW because you never know what other damage has been caused if it is internal. Its probably getting worse because nothing has been done.
