Let me share with you a little secret. Go and buy some boric acid in boxes. You can usually find it at some hardware stores and plant nurseries. Put some in one of those bulb dusters that folks use to spray roses. Lay a trail of it outside the house in a perimeter. Do the same inside, but try to get it inside the cracks and crevices in the wall under the sink and in other places.
All insects have their skeletons on the outside of their bodies. So, the boric acid dries them out from the inside. More importantly, it dries out the eggs so they don't reproduce.
Boric acid doesn't need a number from the EPA. Pets won't go near it. It sits there for years and does its little job. And it's the same little powder that the pest control guys use and charge you an arm and a leg for every month.

We had ants like you can't believe. Mainly in the kitchen but other places as well. I sprayed bug killer and that killed the ones I drowned with it but long range did nothing. Finally, I went to the dollar store and bought about $20 worth of Raid and other brands of those little plastic ant baits that look like roach motels but are made especially for ants. We put these things all over the house and concentrated more on the kitchen. Within a couple of weeks, we had no more ants. It was a blessing when they were gone.
Believe me, it takes a while but these things work. Supposedly, the ants eat the bait and take some of it back to the nest where it kills the queen and the colony dies. I believe this must be true.
In conjunction with the baits you have to be very meticulous in cleaning up any spilled food. A whole heard of ants can live for eternity on a simple little drop of grease.
These things work Good luck.

These nasty little pests seem to come in when it rains a lot or when it is very dry...and all times inbetween. I have found the only successful control is sold at the hardware store...it comes in a small syringe, place a small amount of the sticky fluid in corners, etc....where you will NOT get into it...it is highly poisonous...make sure that pets cannot get to it....place the syringe in a high, hard to get to place when not in use....the ants eat this, carry it back to the nest, and the entire nest dies...but new nests constantly pop up. There is a new product on the market using the same sticky poison, comes in a trap and is easier to use, seems to work very well. Here in southern California, we have invasions that make horror movies appear tame. These "piss ants" seem to love kitchens and bathrooms. We have just placed the new bait out, and within two days, the ants are gone....!! peace and love, Goldwing.

You probably have Carpenter ants. We had them a while ago and had to spray. We also got new windows, as they love damp wood.
Funny, when they started marching out again (normally in the spring), I found their invisible trail and duct taped the opening! No more ants!
Oh if they are what we call sweet ants, well you may have to get an exterminator. Meanwhile, I heard Borax is a deterrent.
Hope your problem is resolved soon.

Combat makes a roach killer that kills EVERYTHING. Even the spiders go away. It is a gel, and comes in what looks like a caulk gun. I use it in my car, bathrooms and kitchens. You can put it in the little nooks of your cupboard doors. The best part, is that they bring the poison back to the nest, so it should kill them all within a few days. Good Luck Granny!

I had them in NC and found they were coming in behind the cupboards thru the bricks--I put down a bead of dish soap along the counter and got rid of them, first find out their entry and then go from there, make sure there is no food or sugar around, or pet food and water. Take a paper towel and stir them up, they follow a scent trail, put down some corn meal if they eat it they will bloat and die.

Wow. I knew boric acid worked for giant cockroaches.
I don't have black ants, Granny, I have something called earwigs. I never even knew they existed until I moved to this complex. They are awful. They are long, thin, and resemble a centipede. I think I will try boric acid around my little place. My Mom used to place Tide in the ant hills and they moved away immediately.

Here is the way I've dealt with them. I save all my coffee grounds and once a week I sprinkle the area surrounding the house. I haven't seen any ants in months. And I will continue to sprinkle coffee grounds until one you folks says STOP. The smell of coffee is getting to you. LOL

I just read that a sheet of Bounce (fabric softner), stuck in corners and near the area they're coming from, repels them. I've not tried this but it's worth a try. Good luck!

Aside from spraying, I don't know what to tell you. I could send you my abundance of spiders which seem to love living in the pine trees here, then moving in for the heck of it!
