My what a compassionate human being you are. Calling handicapped people who have never harmed anyone "retards" just strikes me as very hateful. Many companies try to hire handicapped people, not just Walmart. I think it's great that Walmart gives "greeter" jobs to people in wheelchairs etc. It shows others with a disability that they have value. One of my local Walmarts has a Down's Syndrome man working there doing clean up at the Subway restaurant. He does a great job, shows up everyday, and everyone really likes him. He's a gentle, kind person. Unlike yourself, a hater. Some day you could be in a bad car accident and have a traumatic brain injury. Will you still be calling people "retard?" Will you still be full of hatred for others after you learn what kindness and charity is? I really pity you.
You are throwing words around you don't understand. A "moron" is the old term for a person with an IQ of 50-70. An "idiot" is the old term for a person with an IQ of below 25. An IQ of 100 is considered average, and below 70 was considered "mentally retarded." All of these are old terms no longer in use. We now refer to these human beings as "developmentally disabled." This is a much kinder description that loses the stigma of the old terms. Why not quit reading the hateful websites that are filling you with crap and instead spend the time volunteering with mentally disabled people? They are much kinder than the crowd on the hate-sites, and the rewards will be great.

What - is the smell of french fries making you bitter?
WTF is it with so many of you people that you just insist on proving what ignorant, intolerant jerks you are? The mentally handicapped have a hell of a lot to offer. Try volunteering with Special Olympics or your local therapeutic riding program. You'll learn a lot.
socrates, with all due respect, I have to completely disagree with you. My sister-in-law works at Wal-Mart, and they are *not* on assistance. Wal-Mart has been good to her - she does not have a HS diploma, which would be a very severe handicap in most corporations, but she works hard, and is moving up the ladder. Will she ever be corporate w/out a degree? No - but she's not interested in that at any rate. And she really loves her job....I don't think you can put a price on that. (And no, she's not disabled in any manner.)
Finally, I would have no problem subsidizing the income of a working American. I'd far rather supplement an income than pay some idiot to sit home and pop out kids like puppies.

Two reasons for it.
One is the money-the gov't does give money for employing people who are disabled-this is no secret and the reason behind many businesses doing it.
The second reason is Sam Walton. He encouraged it while he was alive. He is also the reason half of Walmart's parking lot used to turn into a handicapped zone during the holidays.
You'll notice that lately theyre hiring less handicapped people these days, they no longer put out so many handicapped spaces, and now they save cash by hiring illegals. Like all great businesses, once the original visionary died they corrupted it. Theyve also stopped encouraging people to work their way up in the company so much and have made it a horrible place to work. They used to be the benchmark for retail when Walton ruled, now theyre only number 1 due to cheaply made inexpensive Chinese crap on the shelves.

Since you've marked yourself as an ignoramus by your use of the word "retard". I'll try to make this simple. Regular Walmart employees are rarely hired full-time. They therefore receive no health care, no vacation time, no overtime pay (even for overtime worked), no benefits of any kind, the Walmart anti-union task force would make most S.W.A.T. teams jealous (they have their own helicopters). Employees are encouraged by their supervisors to apply for all available local, state and federal public assistance programs: medicare, food stamps, social security, whatever they can get.

Actually more than you think. Not only are disabled workers subsidized but they often give their applicants the correct welfare forms so they can get medical and food assistance because Walmart knowingly keeps their employees at below "living standards" as a cost saving measure.

Yeah, with food stamps, Medicaid and SCHIP health benefits. Many Walmart workers are "working poor" with children.
Oh... if you really mean mentally handicapped, then yeah, Walmart does try to hire them. It helps them look like good corporate citizens.
