Not really. You said it best... they're just looking for points. I'm thinking the "Top Contributor" badge means a lot more than the level one has reached. Anyone can provide those one word opinions, but some of us would really rather answer your question. It's not a matter of points won. I really think you also have to look at the Best Answer percentage numbers.
There are enough Qs and As that are annoying in and of themselves. It doesn't really matter what level the writer has reached, but more the validity of the Q or A.
Good question! People often ask what satisfaction I get out of answering YA questions. For one, it's a great little writing exercise, and two, I really do want to help people.
Mark Twain continues to remind us:
"I didn't have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead."
Somehow I don't think he meant "nope" or "yup."

Seriously, I am annoyed when anyone gives a one-word reply to questions that haven't asked for it specifically.
You want an answer to your question and not some kind of half-baked answer that is a mere point grab

I don't notice or care what level someone is. It's not like being lv 7 gives a person some advantage over me. If they can answer a question in one word, why not?

Well I wouldn't think that getting 2pts would be no longer an issue with them since they have already reached the highest level. Maybe they always gave on word answers.

I have not paid that much attention but I I could guess that 1) they are bored since they have no other goals to achieve in this forum - 2) they really don't care anymore, which goes back to being bored.
I don't think that would ever happen to me. I have too much to say and too much gifted information that God has given me.
