What were considered to be some of America's greatest technological advances during World War II? How did the impact the war or the years following the war?

Medicine advances with penicillin leading the way which extended life. Certainly the development in nuclear technology with the advances in such as electrical production (it didn't stop wars, we've had at least 8 since World War II). The development of the foundation of the transistor which laid the foundation for the computer. The expansion of food production with new chemicals for agriculture. The beginnings of the jet engine which changed air travel.

Those for a few examples, there are many, many more.

Well, maybe the atomic bomb, if that counts...thanks to that, we haven't yet had a war since.

EDIT: I meant a WORLD WAR! Come on! You're going to pick on me because I didn't word that quite carefully enough? When people say, "We haven't had a war since thanks to the atom bomb" EVERYONE knows what that means.
