I also really want to become an astronaut. If you want to pilot or command the shuttle, which is what I want to do, plan on being an officer in the military, Navy or Airforce. If you want to be a mission specialist, then you should study lots of math and science and get at least a masters in engineering. Most mission specialists are officers in the military, so if I were you I would plan on being in the military. The way I plan to go is going to the United States Air Force Academy and majoring in Aerospace Engineering. Then if my grades are good enough, I hope to get into pilot training school. Eventually I will apply to the astronaut corps. Right now, I'm working on my pilots license so I will know how to fly when I go to the academy. Just try to get an early start and you will be fine.
The advice I would give to you is, follow your dreams and don't let anyone steer you away. If someone tells you that you can't do something, take that and show them wrong. Be willing to pursue your dreams. Dreams can come true, but recognize the fact that you are going to pursue your dream, that means that you're going to have to work hard. The dream is not going to be given to you. There are going to be many ups and downs. So if you really want to see something come true and you really want to be able to do something in your life, you have to accept the responsibility of working hard to acheive it. Good luck and hey, maybe someday we will work together at NASA!
"For once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the Earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been and there you will always long to return."- Leanardo da Vinci

Hang around the entrance to the KSC with a sign that says:
"I wanna be an astronaut!
I don't drink!
I am happily married!
I have experience doing tile work
and sewing blankets!"

Either get a PhD in physics/astrophysics and become a mission specialist or enter the Air Force and become a pilot. Check out http://www.nasa.gov , they have a whole section of their website on this.
